Automatic program within unconsciousness

Automatic program within unconsciousness

Most of us take actions on our automatic program

Every morning you wake up, you probably wash your face, gargle, pick-up the newspaper, turn on the TV, watch the news while having breakfast or read the paper, then brush your teeth...etc, etc.

Don't you reckon you take all these actions daily without being conscious of them?

busy people

Take a moment to remember what kind of actions you take everyday. I believe that this "automatic program" which comes from your unconsciousness does occupy majority of your actions.

If you commute everyday, you probably leave roughly the same time every morning, take the same train, same car, same door...isn't every routine almost identical?

This is the automatic program called "Habit".

When it becomes a habit, we are able to almost unconsciously take actions and think without paying much attention. We can, because thinking consciously can burn quite a bit of energy, therefore habituation is used to save energy so we can utilize the remaining energy for new ideas and actions.

program

This automatic program is called "Habit". At first glance it seems convenient- yet on the other hand it can be quite scary.

Once something becomes a "habit", it turns into an automatic program working from your unconsciousness, therefore we stop paying much attention to them.

It would be great if this automatic program (habit) is a good habit drawing ideal situations to yourself, yet sadly enough, the reverse is almost always the case.

Therefore, in most cases, the unconscious habit works as an automatic program drawing to you rather undesirable situations.

Why is it that we have acquired such habits?

That would be a natural question to ask.

We have because、these habits were acquired out of anxiety and to escape fear.

For example, you get up at 6:30 every morning. Do you get up habitually at 6:30 because "it makes you feel great getting up at 6:30"? Of course there are people who do, however majority of us get up at that hour because "if you don't get up by 6:30 you will not make it in time for work (school)".

It is a habit getting up at 6:30 because you want to escape the fear of being late and told off, your evaluation going down, salary decreasing, etc.

Think of an action you can identify as a "habit". Did you not develop that habit out of anxiety or fear?

What you just thought of is only a fraction of many different habits you have acquired over the years - for majority of such habits do not even surface up the consciousness. As explained before, over 90% of your consciousness consists of the unconscious (subconscious) mind.

What do you think would happen if the thought patterns and action patterns based on anxiety and/or fear do occupy the majority of your unconscious mind?
